They’re flexible, thick enough to prevent bumps from turning burners on, and don’t hinder opening the oven. Small fingers might still remove them, though.

Cheap, simple and effective
One night a burner was left on by a pet; I was lucky nothing worse happened. These covers were cheaper and much less intrusive than full cages. They slide in easily and are simple to remove when needed.
