Farm and ranch
Jeffers Ear Tag Remover — Livestock Cutting Tool (Yellow, 1-Pack)
Product description
What you get: one Jeffers ear tag removal knife (single pack) in yellow. The tool is designed specifically to sever plastic identification and insecticide ear tags and to handle similar light cutting jobs around the farm.
Construction and features: the body is compact for easy handling and storage. It uses recessed, high-hardness cutting blades set behind a blunt nose to reduce the chance of accidental nicks while allowing a precise slice through tag material. A built-in magnet in the handle lets you attach the tool to compatible metal surfaces for quick access.
Size and fit: small and lightweight so it can be kept in a pocket, toolkit, or hung on metal surfaces in the barn. The blunt tip is shaped to fit around tags and narrow materials, and the inset blades provide enough edge to cut plastic tag stock, hay strings, twine, netting, small ties, rubber bands, and leg bandages with minimal force.
Intended use: ideal for farmers, ranchers, livestock handlers, and veterinary techs working with cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, foals and other animals. It speeds up tag removal, lowers handling time and stress on animals, and serves as a general-purpose farm cutting tool.
How to use: place the blunt nose around the tag or material so the cutting edge is behind it and hands are clear of the blades. Apply controlled pressure to sever the tag or string. When working with animals, secure and handle them appropriately before cutting and inspect the ear or site after removal for any signs of irritation.
Pros
- Inset high-hardness blades for controlled cuts
- Blunt nose reduces risk of accidental injury
- Built-in magnet for easy storage on metal surfaces
Cons
- Not designed for heavy-duty or repeated industrial use
- Thin construction can bend under excessive force
- Single small blade limits repair options
VerdictA practical, purpose-built cutter for removing plastic ear tags and handling light cutting chores around animals. The inset high-hardness blades and blunt nose promote safer, more controlled cuts with less force. Compact and handy for everyday barn, ranch, and travel use, though heavy-duty tasks may test its limits.

Quick and effective
Worked perfectly — removed all the ear tags from the rescued goats with no fuss.

Handy for baling twine too
Bought it mainly for ear tags but it excels at slicing hay bale string — faster and safer than a pocket knife. The magnetic handle sticks to my shed and my husband pockets it while working.

Too flimsy for heavy use
Bends too easily; seems suited for light jobs and may only manage a few dozen tags before showing wear.

Dependable and simple
We've trusted Jeffers gear for years. This tool is straightforward, gentle on animals, and beats yanking tags by hand. Highly recommended.
