Marine
Handheld Marine VHF Radio — 3W Floating, IPX7, NOAA Alerts
Product description
High-visibility floating core: The radio is designed with a vivid orange floating insert that increases buoyancy and visibility so the unit is easier to spot and retrieve if dropped overboard. Its compact handheld size keeps it convenient for pocket or lifejacket storage while underway.
IPX7 waterproof construction: Built to withstand wet conditions and temporary immersion, the housing and seals protect electronics during typical marine exposure. The unit is intended for use in demanding on-water environments where splashes and brief submersion are possible.
Selectable transmit power and battery options: Choose between .5, 1, and 3 watts of transmit power to match range needs and conserve battery life. The radio accepts AAA cells, including rechargeable NiMH types, and can be recharged via the integrated USB-C charging port for added versatility at sea.
Display and audio: A large, backlit LCD provides clear channel and status information at a glance, legible in varied lighting and weather. The speaker has been tuned for improved output so weather alerts, safety calls, and other transmissions are easier to hear in noisy conditions.
Weather and monitoring features: Access NOAA weather channels and emergency broadcasts to stay updated on conditions. Dual-Watch mode lets you monitor both Channel 9 and Channel 16 simultaneously, a helpful safety feature in busy waterways.
What's included and use cases: The package ships as a ready-to-use handheld VHF intended for recreational boating, fishing, and general marine communications. It is suitable for communicating with marinas, other vessels, and rescue services, and is designed to be a reliable backup when other communications are unavailable.

Battery longevity disappointing
The unit seems fine, but the included NiMH cells failed twice: fully charged and left unused for two weeks, they were dead. The packs are dated and likely old; shouldn't need replacement on a new radio.

Good build and compact
Haven't needed an emergency call, but the WX channel and speaker are clear. I like the small footprint and wrist strap; fits neatly in my gear box.
