Pitt Graphite Matte Pencil Set — 8 Matte Graphite Pencils & Accessories
Product description
This complete Pitt Graphite Matte set arrives in a reusable metal tin and includes eight matte graphite pencils across a broad hardness range: HB, 2B, 4B, 6B, 8B, 10B, 12B and the new 14B. The kit also contains a vinyl eraser, a paper blending stump for smooth transitions, and a compact metal sharpener.
The leads are formulated from finely ground graphite and clay to produce a velvety, ultra-matte laydown that minimizes shine on paper. Each pencil core is glued along its full length into the wooden casing to reduce internal breakage and improve point retention, so the pencils sharpen reliably and last longer during heavy use.
Barrels are crafted from sustainably sourced reforested wood and finished with an environmentally friendly water-based varnish. These pencils are produced in Germany with carbon-neutral manufacturing practices. They are intended for a variety of uses—sketching, detailed drawing, tonal rendering, and any project that benefits from deep, non-reflective blacks without switching to charcoal.
Pros
- Ultra-matte laydown for minimal glare and dense blacks
- Leads glued full length for extra break resistance and reliable sharpening
- Complete kit with reusable tin, eraser, blending stump and metal sharpener
Cons
- More difficult to erase fully than regular graphite
- Can produce more dust and smudging similar to charcoal
- Some users find them firmer or less buttery than certain premium graphite lines
VerdictThese pencils deliver exceptionally deep, non-reflective graphite suitable for monochrome work and photographic reproduction. The set includes a full range from HB to a new 14B, tools for blending and correction, and durable, glued cores—making it a versatile addition for sketching, illustration, and tonal studies.

Perfect for true blacks
Needed real black for a project and these delivered. Worked well with blending stumps to push values to the bottom end. Highly recommend for darker tonal work.

Excellent range, tricky to remove fully
Smooth shading and a broad value scale from light to extremely dark. The downside: some graphite remains after erasing even with kneaded or precision erasers.

Pretty but messy and disappointing
They look nice and produce deep non-reflective blacks, but they crumble and dirty the page like charcoal. The sharpener/packaging labeling raised questions about origin. Too dry and gritty for my taste.

Dark marks and a standout eraser
Very bold black tones and the eraser is excellent. I noticed little difference between 12B and 14B; layering can create a slight sheen but far less than standard graphite. Sharpener OK.

Well-built leads, impressively dark
The cores are glued for the full length, which seems to prevent heavy breakage when sharpening. The graphite lays down very dark without sounding scratchy; minimal noise while drawing.

Great for display pieces, not always for sketchbooks
The matte finish isn't quite charcoal but gives much stronger darks—ideal if the work will be viewed or photographed. For quick sketchbook work it can be overkill, but excellent for fast deep tones.

Does what it promises
No reflective sheen at all, which makes photographing work easier. Useful selection of tones and you get the blending stump, sharpener and eraser—good starter kit for artists.

Simple and effective
Straightforward to use and yields reliable, deep graphite tones.

Good companion to regular pencils
I use these alongside standard graphite for contrast. Leads are sturdy and sharpen cleanly. They erase with some ghosting, so erase cautiously, but they blend and apply smoothly.

The hype is deserved
I expected little difference but the matte blacks truly feel charcoal-like without the dust. The black painted casings look sleek, and the pencils invite you to draw.
