Paul Mitchell Wide-Tooth Detangling Comb for Wet or Dry Hair
Product description
What’s included: one Paul Mitchell wide-tooth detangling comb.
Construction and materials: molded from a durable, high-grade resin/plastic with smoothly rounded teeth to reduce catching. Available in solid and semi-translucent finishes; the handle carries a single printed logo. The comb is designed with a substantial body and a comfortable grip to resist bending under load.
Size and use: the comb’s longer, widely spaced teeth make it suitable for gently working through knots in wet hair after conditioning and for refreshing dry styles. Stylist tip: start at the ends and work upward, and use the comb to evenly distribute masks or leave-in treatments for smoother results. Its build accommodates fine, wavy, thick, and coily textures when used with a gentle, patient technique.
Pros
- Glides through wet or dry hair with minimal pulling
- Solid, durable construction that resists bending
- Good for distributing conditioners and treatments
Cons
- May feel a bit heavy for very sensitive scalps
- Ends can press if used too forcefully
- Limited color/finish options on some versions
VerdictA sturdy wide-tooth comb that gently detangles both wet and dry hair while minimizing pulling and breakage. Comfortable to hold and effective for a variety of textures — from fine to thick — it’s also useful for evenly spreading treatments and masks.

Durable and great for thick hair
Holds up to heavy, wavy hair and hasn’t snapped like cheaper combs. It’s a bit hefty but that feels like durability. Occasionally the ends can poke if I’m too rough.

Performs well on 4a–4b textures
I have 4a–4b hair and was surprised how smoothly it slid through my strands. The thicker teeth seem to help it comb more evenly.

Smooth glide with a pleasant scalp feel
It moves through my hair easily wet or dry without pulling. I use the opaque finish and like the simple look. The thicker teeth give a subtle scalp massage while detangling.

Heavy-duty build, use gently if tender-headed
Well made and heavier than I expected. It works on my fine hair but I have to be careful because my scalp is sensitive. Overall quality is excellent.

A real wet-hair game changer
Rounded teeth and a solid handle make parting and detangling wet hair easy. It doesn’t bend and works well on fine, curly styles prone to tangles.

Switched from a pick — less breakage
After years of using a pick I tried this to reduce breakage. It’s large, comfortable to hold and doesn’t tug like my old tool. So far it’s helped avoid pulls and feels durable.

Built to last
If you don’t lose it, this comb should last a very long time. Works especially well on tightly curled hair.

Finally something that eases big knots
I have very long, thick hair and a long-standing knot at the nape. This comb gets through it far better than other tools and without as much shedding.

Gentle, sturdy, and a new staple
This comb feels solid and well made, with no sharp edges. The semi-frosted white finish is attractive and a bit translucent. It detangles damp hair very gently and has become an essential tool for me.
