Digital Spear-Tip Food pH Meter for Fermentation, Canning & Cooking
Product description
What’s included: The kit arrives with a handheld digital pH meter, two factory calibration solutions (pH 7.00 and pH 4.00), and an electrode storage/protection solution (KCl). A removable spear-tip probe is attached for testing, and basic instructions for calibration and maintenance are provided.
Construction and materials: The meter features a compact, pocketable ABS plastic housing with a backlit LCD for clear readings. The spear probe is a food-penetrating design that combines a corrosion-resistant sheath and a glass sensing element at the tip. The probe is detachable so it can be replaced independently of the meter body.
Size and handling: The unit is sized to sit comfortably in one hand for quick kitchen checks; the detachable probe is long enough to penetrate cheeses, sausages, breads and thicker condiments while keeping the electronics clear of splashes. Controls are straightforward for calibration and single-button operation.
How to use: Calibrate the meter using the included pH 7.00 and pH 4.00 solutions following the manufacturer instructions, then rinse the probe before and after each test. For semi-solid samples, gently insert the spear tip into the food to obtain a stable reading; for liquids, immerse the probe to the recommended depth. Store the electrode tip in the provided storage solution when not in use to maintain performance.
Performance and range: The meter measures across the full 0–14 pH scale and is designed for both liquids and semi-solid foods. Its spear probe gives direct internal readings for cheeses, cured meats, sourdough, sauces and more. The housing is water-resistant to protect against routine splashes and kitchen messes, and the detachable probe makes replacement and cleaning easier.
Applications: Ideal for home fermentation projects (sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha monitoring), hot sauce and salsa acidity checks, cheese and yogurt testing, canning safety checks (target pH below 4.6 for many low-acid canning guidelines), and general culinary quality control. With proper calibration and care, it supports a wide range of food-testing tasks.
Pros
- Spear-tip probe for direct testing of semi-solids
- Comes with calibration and electrode storage solutions
- Detachable probe and water-resistant housing
Cons
- Calibration procedure can be confusing for some users
- Small accessory bottles are easy to misplace
- Probe may need periodic replacement for long-term accuracy
VerdictA practical, food-focused pH meter that combines a spear-style probe and a clear digital display for measuring semi-solid and liquid samples. It ships with basic calibration and electrode care fluids so you can start testing right away. The unit is compact and water-resistant, with a removable probe for extended service life. Accuracy and consistency are good for kitchen and home fermentation task

Good quality but can be temperamental
Works as intended and gives useful readings, but like other portable meters it can be a bit finicky at times. Overall it performs well when handled carefully.

Excellent for sauerkraut and keeping acidity in check
As someone who ferments regularly, this meter has streamlined my process. The kit felt complete with buffer solutions, a cleaning/maintenance routine and a storage solution for the electrode. The backlit screen shows steady pH (and temperature), and the water-resistant case stood up to messy batches. For home fermenters who want lab-like checks without the lab price, this is a fantastic tool.

Calibrating confused by missing powder instructions
The manual mentions dissolving calibration powders, yet the package contained two ready liquids instead of powders. The instructions didn’t clearly say whether the liquids are ready-to-use, and I couldn’t get clarification. Since I’m outside the return window, I’m left unsure but will proceed cautiously.

Missing items at first, but great support and accurate readings
Initially some calibration supplies were not included, but the manufacturer reached out, explained the situation, and offered a refund or to send the missing solution. Once I had the full kit I calibrated the meter and tested several water samples. Calibration was straightforward and repeated readings were very consistent. It performed well on neutral, acidic and alkaline water samples, so I expect similar reliability with food and other liquids.
